What To Expect With Tattoo Removal

What To Expect With Tattoo Removal

Tattoos are a great way to express yourself, but they don’t have to be permanent. If a tattoo no longer suits you, it is possible to have it completely removed with laser technology. Dr. James Ralston, the board-certified dermatologist at Dermatology Center of McKinney in McKinney, TX, performs tattoo removal utilizing one of the most powerful and advanced laser systems available for removing unwanted tattoos.

Laser Tattoo Removal

Tattoo removal at our McKinney, TX, dermatology center is performed using revolutionary laser technology called PiQo4, which uses a picosecond laser to safely and effectively remove tattoo ink from the skin. The technology utilizes a combination of picosecond and nanosecond pulses of light to break down ink particles in the skin.

One reason PiQo4 laser tattoo removal is so powerful is that it can be used on all skin types to successfully eliminate any ink color or pigment. Different colors of ink absorb different wavelengths. Blue ink and black ink are the easiest to remove, while other colors are more difficult. Lasers that have only one wavelength will be less effective in fading different colors of tattoo ink. The PiQo4 laser system emits four different wavelengths and can remove a wide range of pigments beyond blue or black.

Depending on the size and color variation of the tattoo, it could take multiple sessions to fully remove it. Most patients can see results in 2-4 sessions with the PiQo4 laser. Traditional laser tattoo removal treatments usually take twice as long, which highlights the effectiveness of the PiQo4 system used in our office.

Post-Treatment Skin Care

Skin can be more sensitive in the tattooed area following laser treatment. Sunscreen should be applied to the treatment area if you plan to be outside in the sun. Other ways to care for skin following laser tattoo removal treatment include applying ice to the area, as needed to minimize discomfort or sensitivity. Applying antibiotic ointment to prevent infection or bandaging the treatment area can also be helpful.

When you choose to have your tattoo removed at our office using PiQo4 laser technology, you can expect quick results. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Ralston to learn more about laser tattoo removal by calling Dermatology Center of McKinney in McKinney, TX, at (972) 548-0333.
