Gold Standard Emblem

Turn a New Leaf

Light, Medium, and Deep

Light chemical peels decrease the skin’s PH value, loosening the connection of dead skin from living skin. This starts the exfoliation process, revealing a new layer of skin underneath. The epidermis grows back thicker as a response to external stimuli.

Medium and Deep chemical peels cause cell death in the epidermis and dermis. When the body senses damage to these layers of the body, it begins to heal itself.

Types of Chemical Peels

Light peels remove only the epidermis (top layer) of your skin. Light peels can be great for treating fine wrinkles, uneven skin tone, acne, and dry skin.

Medium peels remove your epidermis and the layer below it known as the dermis. The chemical agent in medium peels is slightly stronger than light peels.

Deep peels remove your epidermis, along with the upper and middle layer of your dermis. These chemical peels are best suited to treat deeper wrinkles, intense scars, and precancerous skin patches. They should be used sparingly.

Preparing for Your Peel

For Light Peels:

  • Apply sunscreen regularly to protect your skin from damage.
  • Do not tweeze, wax, or treat the area you wish to peel 1 week prior.
  • Arrive to your appointment with a fully clean face clear of makeup or other products.

For Stronger Peels:

  • Avoid extensive sun exposure 10 days before your treatment.
  • No facial waxing, tweezing, or scraping 7 days before treatment.
  • Pause using products like Renova, Differin, Tazorac, Avage, or Ziana, if you’re on one.

Post-Treatment Care

For Light Peels:

  • Wash your face with cool water. Hot water might feel uncomfortable.
  • Moisturize and hydrate your skin to speed up the recovery process.
  • Apply sunscreen to protect your skin from harm. Its outermost layer is gone.

For Stronger Peels:

  • Avoid picking scabs or flaking skin.
  • Use petroleum jelly for the first few days on peeling areas.
  • Gently apply a cold compress to especially inflamed areas.
