Preparing for Kybella
Prior to getting Kybella in McKinney, Dr. Ralston advises the following to ensure a successful treatment:
- 2 days prior to your treatment, don’t use Retin-A, retinoids, or similar vitamin-A compounds, harsh scrubs, or bleaching creams.
- Do not apply any creams, lotions, perfume, or make up prior to treatment.
- Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood-thinning medications 10 to 14 days prior to treatment.
- Don’t schedule Kybella too close to a major life event, on account of the bruising.
Post-Treatment Care
After each round of Kybella, patients should adhere to the following recovery measures:
- Avoid extreme temperatures such as Jacuzzi’s or hot showers.
- Refrain from alcohol or sodium consumption to avoid excess swelling.
- Keep your head elevated with a pillow while you sleep to decrease swelling.
- Do not massage the injection site post-treatment.
What to Expect
Before Kybella, patients will meet with an injector to discuss their medical history. Patients who are pregnant, breast feeding, or have open sores in the treatment area are NOT a candidate for Kybella. After a detailed and friendly conversation with a provider, someone at our front desk will help you schedule your first injection.
During this appointment, patients assume a comfortable position lying down. The practice’s provider will adjust the number of Kybella injections based on each patient’s level of neck fat. This may range from 30 to 50 Kybella injections.
The Dermatology Center of McKinney recommends patients undergo 1 to 3 Kybella treatments for maximum results. Subsequent Kybella treatments are spaced out 4 to 6 weeks after one another to ensure patient safety and satisfaction.
Kybella destroys fat cells, so active and dieting patients don’t need additional rounds of Kybella. However, the patient’s submental area may grow if they gain weight.
The most common side effects post-treatment include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and lumpy nodules. If conditions like difficulty swallowing or facial drooping occur, please reach out to your healthcare provider.
